Obituary for my riding boots
Today is a sad day for me, my trusty motorcycle boots have given up the ghost and no amount of cobbler’s magic can bring them back to life.
I leave behind two friends that have seen me through wind, rain, sunshine, sleet and snow, keeping my feet dry and safe over tens of thousands of kilometres on two wheels. I can’t remember how long we have been riding together, these are timeless friends I am loosing. They have been travelling with me throughout Europe, and having to let them go is a sad moment: the leather still has plenty of life in it through much love and greasing; they exude character and experience of the road. Unfortunately, the soles gave up before the body (I know they’d appreciate the pun).
It is always with great sadness that I have to unceremoniously let go of old biking equipment at the local recycling centre. My thoughts and sincere thanks always go to the animals whose hide has kept me safe and dry for all this time.
I have a new pair of boots ready to take to the road, however, I feel sad to give up these old friends, I would have preferred to keep them. In their honour, I spent some time nourishing the leather of my riding pants: 23 years of close collaboration… and I wish us many more hours of riding.
Goodbye Old Friends !
